It’s not always what they did. Sometimes, it’s what they said. Their words cut through your heart like shards of glass. Long after the conversation is over, you replay every moment, wondering what you could have done differently. What did you say? What did you do? Why did they turn on you with such anger and venom? The painful truth is that sometimes people turn against you for no reason at all. You may find comfort in knowing you are in good company. Even Jesus experienced this kind of rejection. In John 15:25, He said: "They hated me without reason." And in John 15:18, Jesus reminds us: "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." Knowing that you did nothing wrong doesn't erase the pain. Rejection still hurts. Betrayal still stings. The wounds left by harsh words and broken trust can linger for a long time. You keep hoping they'll come around. You wait for an apology that never comes. You look for understanding, but find none. The reasons behind their hostility may have nothing to do with you. Sometimes people are driven by insecurity, jealousy, resentment, or fear. They may see growth in your life that challenges them. They may resent your progress or misunderstand your intentions. In some cases, they may simply be acting under influences that are not of God. Ultimately, the reason doesn't matter as much as the reality: you've been hurt. But don't stay there. Don't build a home in the pain. Don't wallow in the mud others have thrown at you. Choose healing instead. Healing begins when you place the situation into God's hands. That is the message behind my song, "Let the Lord Fight Your Battles." The song was born from a season in my own life when people I trusted dragged my name through the mud. The betrayal cut deeply. For a time, I struggled under the weight of the hurt. But God continually reminded me that vengeance belongs to Him. He never asked me to fight those battles alone. He asked me to trust Him. His Word teaches us not only to release our burdens to Him but also to pray for those who have wounded us. Jesus said in Luke 6:27-28: "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." Those words are not easy to live out. In fact, they may be some of the hardest instructions in Scripture. Yet they hold the key to freedom. If you want healing, if you want to stop losing sleep, if you want peace to return to your heart, trust the Lord to handle what you cannot. Pray for those who have hurt you. Refuse to let bitterness take root. Don't give your pain permanent residence in your soul. Give the battle to God. He is far better at fighting it than we are. This is Marlene with Grace Notes Media, where healing has a voice.
